Wrestling who doesn’t love wrestling? Sure professional wrestling like the WWE and other promotions is scripted and they are nothing more than actors who are able to perform incredible moves to avoid getting hurt badly. Scripted or not in my opinion pro wrestling is more enjoyable to watch than UFC but that maybe just be me and that’s okay. Wrestling is the oldest form of combat and with that being said this brings me to my main topic WWE 2k19.
WWE 2k19 is a game developed by Yuke’s and published by 2K Sports. The game features WWE Superstar AJ Styles on its cover. The game released it’s Deluxe Edition and Collector’s addition 4 days before the Standard Edition which was on October 9, 2018. This game goal was to move away from the simulation-style gameplay and making it more fluid. For me, this was never an issue but other players never really enjoyed the previous games in the past as much as the Raw vs. Smackdown games.
The game features are as follows:
Showcase mode which players take control of 11 different unique models of Daniel Bryan and relive his rise, fall, and come back. I haven’t played this mode yet but I’m sure it’s good.
There are two tower modes, one is in MyPlayer mode where you can use the towers to take on a series of wrestlers. One is a gauntlet tower and it's kinda like Mortal Kombat towers where you have to beat one wrestler to move on to the next one, however losing a match doesn’t give you a continue you have to start all over. Also quitting will provide you with the same results. You also have towers that allow you to beat one quit and the progress saves, you can also lose a match and you won’t have to start over.
You also have an all-new MyCareer mode that gives you a much better storyline then what it has been recently. The storylines in the past where the characters didn’t speak bothered me, this time everyone involved in this linear storyline speaks, minus John Cena who is clearly voiced by someone else. If I’m not mistaken Cena is voiced by Randy Orton but I could never find a clear cut answer. I really enjoyed this year's story hope they take this and improve upon it next year. All I want is voice acting for one game mode.
The Road to Glory mode is also back where you get to join one of eight factions. I haven’t played this one yet either.
Also new this year there is the million dollar tower which was part of the AJ Styles “Million Dollar Challenge” where you take control of AJ Styles and run a gauntlet of AJ’s greatest challenges, and at the end, you face AJ Styles himself. For the challenge, if you completed the tower you would send in a video and 4 semifinalists were selected to go in a tournament. Winner of the said tournament then would face AJ Styles for a million dollar prize.
This game also has features such as Zombie Triple H, Bray Wyatt’s compound, Big Head Mode, and vintage wrestlers like Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Roddy Piper and more per usual. You can find a complete roster and DLC content here.
I play this game on PS4 and you can find me by my PSN name Amalgamx, and even though I buy this game every year I almost didn’t this year but I am glad I finally did it. Normally I get the game on day one but this year I waited a few months, and to be honest, it’s because I saw a commercial for it. Now I know this post is almost 8 months past the release date but what can you do? My opinion of this game 8 out of 10. It’s a solid game even with the classic 2K glitches.
If you still don’t have it pick up your copy today! You can order it here.
