Entropia Universe is MMOVU or massively multiplayer online virtual universe that was developed by Mindark which is a Swedish Software company. This game uses what they call PED or Project Entropia Dollars. It can be either bought from the Entropia webshop or it can be earned in the game by doing small tasks which we will go over later.
If you want to get started in Entropia Universe then you will want to go here. This will take you to their website, you can read about the game there and learn more, but I will cover the basics. The first thing you will do after of course downloading and installing the game, creating an account and all that is you will need to create your avatar. But actually before that, you need to pick your starting planet. I started on Calypso not knowing anything about the game and other planets and to be honest with you, had I paid any attention to anything other than the fact I could make money from playing a game, I might have chosen a different planet.
Let’s go over the planets:
Planet Calypso: This is the first planet in the game, so starting here isn’t so bad this is probably where you will find most of the game's population. This is a Sci-Fi planet with human colonists. If you want to play with me start here.
ROCKtropia: Is the second planet created I believe in 2010. This is a Hollywood-inspired planet, to be honest, I know very little about the other planets as I never ventured to them.
Next Island: This planet came next, this is deemed as an interdimensional paradise.
Planet Arkadia: This was the 4th planet that came in May 2011. This planet interests me, but I need to skill up as much as I can before I go there. This is a treasure hunting planet and from what I read treasure hunting can be very profitable, but like everything else you have to spend money to make money.
Planet Cyrene: Honestly the only thing I know about Cyrene is the fact it came out May 2012.
Planet Toulan: Is the last as of the starting planets it’s a desert planet based off Arabian mythology and culture, it might be me but sounds like Aladdin in space.
You can find out more about the planets here.
Now after playing the game off and on again for about two years now, and investing a little over $100 into the game I have come to terms that I will have to probably invest even more to break even. Unless I get lucky and hit what they call a HOF Global. But first what is a Global? Well in Entropia whenever you craft an item, or kill an animal, or even mine something that is worth let’s say 5 PEDs or more then they will be announced to the universe, therefore making it global. So, what is a HOF Global? Well, those are big hits in the game, normal worth thousands of PED. So if you look at it this way 1000 PED = $100 give or take, but you have to be lucky. If you want to make money in this game and not waste the PED you have, I would focus on one skill and perfect it whether that’s Hunting, Crafting or Treasure Hunting, pick one and stick with it.
Looking back at everything I wish I wouldn’t have tried crafting until I was making money hunting but I can’t do the same thing over and over again. The game is grindy like every MMO out there, the good news is there is a lot you can do to make money, and you don’t have to spend time, but there is a downfall. If you do not spend money in this game you most likely be bored, and with that being said here are some of the ways you can play for free:
Sweating: This seems to be the most popular free method. I still do it from time to time, 1k Sweat currently sells for 1Ped down from 7-8 PED from when the game first started from what I hear, this is due to changes made in the game. Grab your Sweat tool, find a mob and get you some sweat.
Walking for Fruits/Stones: Hit Q on your keyboard and literally start walking paths. It’s slow and boring but if you keep an eye on the ground you can find fruits and stones, I’m not entirely sure on the going rate of these right now.
Gathering Oil: Get to an oil rig and wait for the Texas gold to spawn on the ground and then pick it up. Be warned, picking up oil is risky, it’s a PVP(Player vs. Player) area and you can be killed and if I’m not mistaken looted, maybe not I don’t remember there are non-lootable PVP areas in the game.
Sponsored Hunting: I am not sure if this is a thing but there are people that will sponsor you to hunt, you keep 100% of the loot from hunting and you get a free weapon and ammunition, so look into it if you like to kill things. You can find more information here.
Special Events: Simply put there are events from time to time where players can earn free items or win PED.
Websites: This is actually my favorite way to earn PEDs. Basically, you join a website that is offering to give you PEDs for doing tasks such as taking surveys or watching videos. I know of two places you can sign up and get started:
1. Earnpeds.com- Go to their offers page, you can also learn other methods of earning PEDs along with the other methods I mentioned above.
2. EntropiaPartners.com- I use this the most, I just watch videos in another window while I do other things, but you do you.
After reading everything you have to decide if the game is for you, personally, I give this game 7/10. I enjoy playing it from time to time, but I don’t plan on making money off it.
